A fountain pen collection app that remembers the ink
With pens, the details that matter change over time: which ink is in which pen, which nib you swapped, when you last cleaned it. A simple catalogue turns a drawer of pens into something you can actually navigate.
One entry per pen
Record the brand, model and finish, the nib material and size, and whether it fills with a converter, cartridges or a built-in mechanism. A close-up of the nib and a shot of the full pen capped and uncapped cover most of what you will want later.
Track the ink
Note which ink is currently in each pen and when you filled it. Cleaning a pen when you change inks is good practice, so a short date next to the ink helps you remember which ones are due.
Keep prices and receipts private
Prices paid, retailer details and any limited-edition numbers belong in a private layer, not on a public profile.
What to record for each pen
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Brand, model, finish | Identifies the exact edition. |
| Nib material and size | The thing you will most often want to look up. |
| Filling system | Converter, cartridge, piston or similar. |
| Ink currently inside, date filled | Tells you when it is time to clean. |
| Purchase date, source, price | Your own history and proof of ownership. |
| Edition number | Limited editions are numbered; keep it private. |

Questions
Can I track inks as well as pens?
You can record the ink inside each pen in its notes. LAYX is a general catalogue for the objects you own and carry rather than a dedicated ink database.
Does it work for pencils and notebooks?
Yes, you can add any object you carry on purpose, including writing tools and notebooks.
